Aston Villa have confirmed Emiliano Martinez has been given a one match ban by UEFA.

The Argentine shot stopper was given a yellow card during the penalty shootout between Villa and Lille on Thursday in the Europa Conference League.

Martinez got a yellow card in the game as well, however cards reset at the end of extra-time.

The rule, IFAB law 10 (determining the outcome of a match), states, "Warnings and cautions (YCs) issued during the match (including during extra time) are not carried forward into kicks from the penalty mark (KFPM).

"A player who receives a YC during both the match and the KFPM is not sent off."

The yellow card does, however, incur an automatic one-match suspension, as it was his third over two legs.
