Las Vegas Raiders' underrated player is set to enter the most important season of his career
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Now, it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbow for Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre'Von Moehrig. There was a time when the Raiders fan base was all calling Moehrig a bust, considering he was drafted early in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. But Moehrig's story is one of resilience and determination, as he has proven his worth and turned the tide in his favor.

His first two seasons were challenging, and as he has now been through three different regimes, there was once the idea that he could get cut when McDaniels came to town. However, he has shown remarkable improvement, a testament to his dedication and hard work. Before, you would find Moehrig dealing with injuries while also having very bad moments on the field in terms of coverage breakdowns and other things. But now, he's a different player.

Moehrig's prowess on the field was evident last season, where he consistently outperformed expectations. His ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions often went unnoticed, making him one of the most underrated players in the league and the most underrated safety in the league.

Pro Football Focus recently made their list of underrated players for each team, and Moehrig ended up as the Raiders, which makes sense.

Not many of the Raiders' recent draft picks have developed into above-average players. Moehrig, the former second-round pick, seems to be one of the exceptions, as he was among the better safeties in the NFL in two of his three seasons since he entered the league. His 83.3 PFF overall grade over the last three weeks of the 2023 season ranked sixth among safeties.

Moehrig was a big part of the Raiders' defensive turnaround in the second half of last season. He had three interceptions and a sack last season, and that doesn't even tell the whole story. Moehrig's playmaking in the defensive backfield was beautiful, and he rarely messed up as he did before.

He is entering the final year of his contract. Do the Raiders explore other options next free agency, or do they re-sign Moehrig, hoping he will only get better? This year is huge for Moehrig. I think if he is even better than last season, you can bet he will get that contract.
