Green Bay Packers Add Eight Undrafted Free Agents To Roster
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers did a solid job of upgrading some weaknesses on their roster during the 2024 NFL Draft. Their first-round pick, offensive tackle Jordan Morgan heard his name called as he fills a major void in the trenches.

With veteran left tackle Davis Bakhtiari being released earlier this offseason, Morgan can slide right into his spot in the lineup. On Day 2, the Packers addressed two more needs, landing linebacker Edgerrin Cooper out of Texas A&M and safety Javon Bullard out of Georgia.

But, as the Packers and all NFL teams know, the work with this year’s draft class isn’t over when Mr. Irrelevant is selected. After that, a frenzy of player movement occurs as teams work out deals with undrafted free agents.

This part of the offseason process is as important as any. It gives a chance to teams to not only fill out their roster for off-season workouts but also find diamonds in the rough who slipped through the cracks.

The Packers have had a few of those in recent seasons. All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon was undrafted as was wide receiver Malik Heath, who played in 13 games with one start as a rookie in 2023.

Who could be those diamonds in the rough this year? The Packers announced that they signed eight undrafted free agents from the 2024 class, adding depth to their positions of need entering the draft.

Two more offensive linemen, Donovan Jennings out of South Florida and Trente Jones out of Michigan, were signed. Both players received grades high enough to be considered to be picked in the draft, so the Packers are getting some value there.

Another linebacker was added to the mix with the team signing Ralen Goforth from Washington. Long snapper Peter Bowden out of Wisconsin was considered among the top prospects at his position.

Rounding out the list of undrafted free agents are defensive lineman James Ester out of Northern Illinois, running back Jarveon Howard of Alcorn State, defensive lineman Rodney Matthews out of Ohio and tight end Messiah Swinson out of Arizona State.
